Family Outing to Lake Oeschinen

January 3rd, 2011

With the borrowed sled from Chalet Heimelig, we walk 15 minutes through the snow covered forest to the new Oeschinen cable car. There we buy a ticket for 15 francs per person (timetable and prices here). In a very short time, we reach the “Oeschinen land” Through the large windows we see all of Kandersteg and watch carefully if we can also see Chalet Heimelig. When we arrive at the top, we gaze astonished at the blue mountains.

From the summit cable car station, we walk further about 15 minutes along the marked and groomed path to the Hotel-Restaurant Oeschinensee where we can enjoy a well earned hot chocolate. Or maybe the adults would prefer a “Kaffee Susanne” with brandy and cream. As we sip out hot drink we observe the ice fishermen on the frozen lake through our binoculars.

After our refreshing drink, we grab our sleds and fully enjoy the incredibly fast downhill run (top speed 57 km/hr). Down in the valley, we sled down the sled run in the Oeschinen forest a few times before we return to Chalet Heimelig to warm up with a hot tea.
